KRISTEN BLESSMAN - CHANGE AGENT, COLORADO WOMEN'S CHAMBER
Sunday Feb 02, 2020
Sunday Feb 02, 2020
KRISTEN BLESSMAN
Kristen has spent the last fifteen years working in the nonprofit sector having been drawn to it because they are masters of change. Due to circumstances in her early life, Kristen had to experience a lot of change and learn how to navigate her environment and the chaos in her life. Kristen considers herself a Change Agent Leader and is passionate about seeing people be masters of change. She is hooked on watching what human beings are able to do given the adversity they go through. Through her for profit and nonprofit work, she also became hooked on the ability to take her sales and marketing skills and apply them to do something good in the world. Kristen encourages us to never being ashamed to tell our story. She believes we need to start valuing peoples’ personal journeys more and realize that people are drawn to causes because of the experiences they have had - there is a reason people are the way they are! Let’s take people's passions and experiences and learn to channel them at work and in business. Kristen has been involved with the Colorado Women’s Chamber of Commerce for over 20 years in various facets. As the current Director of the CWCC, she is leading the charge for “growth in business” for women. The needs of women in business have changed since the 1980s (the Chamber’s inception) and under Kristen’s leadership, the CWCC is committed to rallying it’s members and the community around advancing women in business and looking at innovative ways and practices to do it. Through focus groups, the Chamber has uncovered three things holding women (their membership) back 1. unconscious bias - workplace culture 2. communication - our self-limiting beliefs and 3. a lack of professional mentorship and sponsorship. Realizing that #2 & #3 are controllable with training and programing, the CWCC focuses most of its programming on these things because they can create change and have an impact. Currently, the Chamber hosts five large scale events each year that raise awareness and advocate for issues facing women; these events highlight women doing incredible things! Kristen believes relationships are key to our success in life and continues to work on resources to help women have more time and opportunity to connect with those around them. Kristen’s advice is to just do it! Dive in deeper! Make more mistakes and just go for it!

JONATHAN ALPERT - PIONEER, TRAILBLAZER AND PARTNER AT WESTFIELD DEVELOPMENT
Sunday Jan 26, 2020
Sunday Jan 26, 2020
JONATHAN ALPERT
Jonathan with Westfield Company, Inc. shares his background from a small school in GA to living for a year in Australia in his early 20’s. He is a Colorado native who worked in a brokerage firm, Sullivan Hayes, specializing in retail. Then on the development side of the business with Shea Properties. in Denver, Colorado. His first project started in 2010 called “Verve” which was a multifamily development in Denver, which he sold to Amstar. Jonathan really enjoys being involved in the community, showing up and being authentically present. He believes there are two types of community to consider when creating a community development. First, there is the existing community in and around the development and second, there is a new community of homeowners in the development and the key is to create shared experiences between the two. Jonathan believes it’s always about doing right by the community; this brings him the greatest joy and sometimes the greatest challenges. Developments are all about the experience so people can enjoy something different, especially in the recent design at the Stanley Marketplace Retail Development. The Westfield Company considered the “internet resistant retail” idea, where individuals have an experience at the development that cannot be achieved online. Whether it’s a farmers market, flash mob or a pop-up retail store, the Stanley Market is all about human interaction and experience. Jonathan’s passion resides in elevating the city of Denver, making great places and experiences for those who live here now and to come. Jonathan began building social capital in college beginning with family relationships that created new job opportunities and even leading to his partnership involvement at Westfield. Jonathan encourages us to have a willingness to share, talk and to be vulnerable. He often asks others in the community/industry for their input and is open to conversations about their thoughts on things. He believes everything is a relationship of co-workers, friends, family and making time for them, taking a deep breath and being present in the moment. Jonathan’s relationships and his passion for community is what drives him to create new, innovative urban and retail communities. Jonathan believes life is all about listening to your gut and being passionate about what you are involved in.

KEO FRAZIER - ENTREPRENEUR & MARKETING GURU
Sunday Jan 19, 2020
Sunday Jan 19, 2020
KEO FRAZIER
Keo, a Denver, Colorado native, moved to the east coast for college, where she studied Psychology at Cornell University. She thought she wanted to be a therapist for children and while working in that field, Keo realized there may be another way for her to make an impact on the world while using these skills she had received and do something different professionally. Keo loves psychology and our ability to influence/be influenced by people on varying levels, so she took what she loved most about psychology and translated it into marketing. Whether influencing people’s buying decisions, something they are reading, the clothes they wear or even more impactful is our ability to do “placemaking”. Placemaking and Experiential marketing impacts how we think and behave and what we do today and in the years to come. Keo is passionate about placemaking and creating memorable experiences. She encourages when we are creating experiences to be sure people are experiencing something fresh and new each time they come. Keo sees experiential marketing on the rise as people continue to be less interested in acquiring things and more interested in acquiring memories with people they love. Early in her career, Keo started her first company, a gorilla marketing company that she grew into a 65 person firm. Since then she has owned and operated successful marketing firms and been involved in some of Denver’s best placemaking projects such as Dairy Block and Denver Union Station. Recently, Keo took a break in life and spend nine months traveling the world and finding refreshment. She encourages us to take a break - a real break - to allow ourselves time to rediscover our priorities and passions. Now that Keo has returned to Denver, she is consulting with developers and municipalities around the idea of placemaking and creating a great place for people to live, work and play. She has launched “The Fractional CEO”, a service to help smaller companies receive the benefits of a Chief level position including strategizing and planning without the financial burden of having someone on staff. Keo finds herself energized by the many interesting people and businesses she is encountering through this endeavour and looks forward to see where “The Fractional CEO” takes her. Keo believes her calling is to have an impact in the world everyday. She is committed to trying to have an impact every single day and has that mindset daily. Her most recent passion project is “New Thinkers” - a quarterly event bringing together people who are dedicated to impacting the world and solving world problems in a new way. Keo reminds us that each of us hold a piece of the picture and only when each of us bring our piece of the puzzle does the picture become clear. Each of us and our piece is valuable. Keo credits many of the opportunities she has had in life to her network and her ability to connect with those around her. Keo’s key ingredients to building quality relationships are 1. to be strategic about who you are connecting with and how you are connecting 2.be authentic and genuine - make it about the other person when connecting with them. Keo’s encourages us to keep a journal and write down our three (3) wins of each day as a way to stay engaged and focused (check out “Tools of Titans” by Tim Ferris). Keo exhorts us to cultivate relationships and build social capital because he who dies with the most toys, still dies, and its the person who dies with the richest life, is the one whose life is full of human connections and our social capital is part of that.

KATE BAILEY - WORLD SHAKER AND FOUNDER OF ANNABEL MEDIA
Saturday Dec 28, 2019
Saturday Dec 28, 2019
KATE BAILEY
Kate Bailey is the owner of Annabel Media. After working as a magazine editor and writer for 10 years, she founded Annabel as a full-service communications agency for luxury lifestyle businesses. She believes in bringing her client’s story together throughout the full communications ecosystem—connecting digital marketing with traditional marketing, business development and sales. Kate believes it's about building an authentic story that gives clients an opportunity to build their business without a sales pitch. It’s about establishing trust and relationships and going above and beyond in both service and in delivery. She urges clients to approaching relationships by excluding what’s in it for me and really focus on what’s in it for them.
Kate believes that it’s important to do things that make you uncomfortable…get outside your normal pathways and daily routines. You will be surprised on who you will meet and the impact. She wants us to understand the value of long term relationships and not ignore the “old ways" of marketing and sales. Personal relationships are the most important.
How do you build social capital in your network? Look at strategic partnerships in your industries that crossover. What are the 10 businesses that can bring in potential clients or connections?
Finally, marketing and social capital are long term games. Nothing happens quickly. It takes 2-3 years to develop, but having the vision and willingness to keep going is what makes it solid.
In 2020, Annabel Media is launching Brand (Re)evolution 6-month consulting program that guides small businesses through the complex world of communications so they can get clear on their vision. Over the course of 24 weeks, the Annabel Media team guides businesses through a series of carefully designed exercises to create a cohesive communications strategy and an easy-to-follow roadmap. The Results? Powerful messaging, brand confidence, streamlined sales, a robust toolkit, simple and easy-to-implement marketing systems.

BARBARA BROOKS & LUPE HIRT - MOVERS, SHAKERS AND SECOND ACT WOMEN
Saturday Dec 28, 2019
Saturday Dec 28, 2019
BARBARA BROOKS & LUPE HIRT
Barbara has been in the corporate world for 25+ years and now at 53 years young, she just launched “Second Act Women” with her friend and business partner, Guadalupe Hirt. The idea behind the brand is that women are ageless, age doesn’t matter and you can have a do-over in the 2nd half of your life. They are both self-aware, listening to Rene Brown, Rachel Hollis and other thought leaders. They are passionate about being happy in life. It’s not a midlife crisis - it’s a midlife journey and it’s about thriving, not just existing, in your second act. There is a cultural shift that is happening for women, it’s not about age, it’s about living at 40 and 50+. They offer events, career workshops and other professional development programs for corporate women, business owners, freelancers and returnship candidates. It’s about disrupting ageism, they do not want women over 40 and 50 to be pushed aside any more! They want to ensure they get a fair chance. It’s about creating a community to connect. It’s another life stage, looking through the lens of experience and asking “what am I passionate about? What fills my heart? How can I have a deeper level of impact, leave a legacy and make genuine connections?” Barbara believes it’s our time. We’re today’s it-girl with a $15 trillion buying authority however, culture says it’s not and they put us on the shelf. Enough. We’re experienced, adventurous, life-loving, ready for more women and it’s time society see us like that. And as women, we need to be willing to let go of the bad relationships that are no longer having a positive impact on our lives. She believes we should be around people that lift us up and encourage you to take your second act to the next level. Barbara's mother greatly impacted her life by teaching her how to “love” herself for who she is - we are enough! Lupe believes in being patient, experience has shown her that things take time and persistence is critical. She encourages us to be able to give and accept criticism and to be willing to talk through our issues. Having humility and being able to apologize when you are wrong, will go along the way both personally and professionally. Lupe encourages us to understand our strengths and weaknesses and to believe we have the ability to attract people who can help us. She believes it is about finding those great relationships and taking time to cultivate them. For Lupe, the most important relationship in her life is with her mother. They are very close and she considers her mom to be her rock. Lupe encourages us to accept that “Change is scary as hell”, but it’s a sign that you are alive. She reminds us that change is not always a negative, so just embrace it. She says why not take a different route home, do something you've never done before - just little changes like these can make a difference in our lives. Don’t be afraid to be by yourself and to take time to reflect. She believes life is about learning a little more about yourself and asking for guidance from above and within. We must be willing to see it and receive it. These ladies are passionate about taking action on the stirring of ideas in their hearts through mind mapping, setting the meetings and taking action! They believe in being aware of what is happening around us and being ready for change. They remind us to never let anyone tell you “you can’t” because if you believe, YOU CAN! Look for Barbara and Lupe hosting their next conference in Denver this Spring! The next time you see a girlfriend, remember to pass it on and support her right where she is! #secondactwomen
