STACY TAUBMAN - ENTREPRENEUR, AUTHOR, SPEAKER & ONE WHO EMPOWERS OTHERS

STACY TAUBMAN - ENTREPRENEUR, AUTHOR, SPEAKER & ONE WHO EMPOWERS OTHERS

July 18, 2020

Stacy, founder and CEO of Rise Collaborative Workspace, is from St. Louis, Missouri and started her career as a high school math teacher. She is amazed at where her journey has taken her and in this episode she shares personal stories that can inspire us all. Stacy always had aspirations of high level leadership and a passion for helping people reach their full potential. In 2012, Stacy started her first company, “Girls Dreaming Big” where she found great success in supporting high school girls overcome obstacles and develop a sense of community during high school. She loved being an entrepreneur, but realized working alone most of the time that she desired more professional interaction. She started interviewing successful women (over 300 in total) to understand what their needs were, what they had done to get where they were and what advice they had for her and other women. This is where her vision for Rise Collaborative was born. In 2016, Stacy opened her first Rise Workspace in St Louis with 6,000 sq. ft. and had over 200 members within the first year and she soon realized it is about more than just the space; it is about community. Stacy has since opened a Rise Collaborative in Denver and doubled in size, both in  members and physical locations. Stacy shares with us that one of the biggest predictors in business success is access to Social Capital. At Rise, they do this by helping their members be connected to the right people and having a very intentional network. For Stacy, being a trusted resource and someone others can count on is essential to building Social Capital. She encourages us to be open minded about how relationships may impact our life now and in the future - we never know what part someone may play in the story of our life. Stacy reminds us that it is important to have a “long game” mindset and not be focused only on “what’s in it for me?” as we cultivate relationships and grow Social Capital. Listen to this episode to hear Stacy’s personal stories of overcoming challenges and finding success as she launches into the next phase of Rise Collaborative’s growth!

ADAM FENTON - ENTREPRENEUR, DEVELOPER AND INTENTIONAL CONNECTOR

ADAM FENTON - ENTREPRENEUR, DEVELOPER AND INTENTIONAL CONNECTOR

July 11, 2020

Adam, grew up in small town Iowa, attended college at the University of Northern Iowa and studied finance and real estate. In 2011, Adam decided to leave his home state and move to Denver, Colorado to explore a bigger city with more diversity, arts, and culture. Once in Denver, he worked with a private equity firm for a short time before moving to Holland Partner Group where he was able to begin getting development experience and was lucky enough to work on some iconic projects like Union Denver and Platform at Union Station. Relationships were key in Adam’s transition to Colorado as well as his entrance into real estate development and he quickly became aware of how important his network would be to his success. Having come into the development world during the recession, Adam believes there are many opportunities to be found in the midst of challenge. He recommends reading the book, “The Obstacle Is the Way”, for inspirational stories about overcoming obstacles and finding the silver lining in our circumstance. After 4.5 years at Holland Partner Group, a large institutional firm, Adam moved to BMC Investments, a smaller, private equity firm focused mostly on development in Cherry Creek North in Denver. Working with these two firms, Adam gained experience in many aspects of development and realized he was ready to start a development company of his own, and launched Narrate Companies! Having a strong network has been essential for Adam to make this entrepreneurial leap and he encourages us to build strong relationships in the areas that we want to grow our business in. Adam believes there are key elements to building a strong network such as being a good listener who is present and available to those around him. He also stresses the importance of being vulnerable and putting yourself out there to find commonalities with those we are connecting with. Possibly the most important element is being trustworthy, this is absolutely necessary to cultivate deep, meaningful relationships. People can easily see through wrong motives. As Adam was building his network in the early days, he attended many networking events and made as many connections as possible. Now, further in his career, he finds that most of his valuable connects are made through intentional introductions by others in his sphere. He encourages us to be mindful and intentional about the connections we are making while remaining open to what may unexpectedly come from an introduction. Adam encourages us to do what we say we are going to do and believes everything else will usually take care of itself eventually. Listen to Adam’s episode to hear him share about lessons he learned while building Social Capital.

BILL MCDONALD - THE GUY WHO IS CHANGING HOW WE BUILD

BILL MCDONALD - THE GUY WHO IS CHANGING HOW WE BUILD

June 20, 2020

BILL MCDONALD

Bill, a Michigan native, grew up in a family of entrepreneurs and caught the “business spirit” early in life. He now runs his own company, Phoenix House, which specializes in manufacturing single family homes in off-site construction. Bill’s love for construction was developed at an early age and he credits his family and his european heritage. Bill is passionate about creating high performance homes including creating passive houses that are energy smart and responsible. He believes passive houses paired with off-site construction is a nice partnership and sees many current building trends heading in this direction. International relationships have been critical to Bill’s success and he encourages us to use communication and looking at relationships from a long-term perspective as Social Capital building blocks.  “If there is a will, there is a way!” is a phrase that he heard many times growing up and he reminds us that we must exercise strength and will to stick with an idea/inspiration for the long run - there must be “stick-to-it-ness” to achieve our dreams. Bill was invited to speak at TedxDetroit where he gave an insightful presentation focusing on the performance and off-site nature of building being like the adoption of technology in the automobile industry (Tesla). It can change everything! Bill is currently working on Phoenix House Homestead - a co-living concept that reduces costs while providing community for those who live there. Bill is excited to see where this adventure takes him as he continues to think outside the box!
